The Connections Project Environmental Management Plan (EMP) was approved by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning on 18 April 2016.
The EMP will streamline the delivery of on-farm works for landowners across the GMID and this approval allows the operation of the Planning Scheme Amendment (PSA).
A requirement of the PSA approval was to implement an EMP which establishes appropriate environmental management measures which must be complied with by the Connections Project.
The change has significant benefits for councils, landowners and the project more broadly.
What this means for landowners:
The approval allows the Connections Project to operate more efficiently by enabling it (and direct contractors) to undertake on-farm works on behalf of landowners.
Previously, landowners were responsible for their on-farm works and obtaining planning permits from respective councils across the GMID, which sometimes led to delays in work starting.
This change will see greater efficiencies for all involved.
